Broadband to the Boonies

Myakka Technologies is proud to announce newest tower location atop the Oak Ford Golf Clubhouse.  The Oak Ford location brings Myakka Tech up to 5 broadcasting locations serving Eastern Sarasota and Manatee counties. This new location brings HIGH SPEED INTERNET to heavily wooded Oak Ford and surrounding areas, something we have strived to do since our startup in 2001.   Myakka Tech now also has the ability to reach heavily wooded home sites in other parts of our coverage area as well.

Myakka Technologies uses the newest in wireless technology to bring blazing high-speed Internet service to sparsely populated areas. We use a small radio/antenna.  This unit attaches to the outside of our subscriber’s house, pointing to one of our 5 towers.  If the customer is close enough, the radio can actually be placed inside the home.   It then beams a signal to our tower and then on to the Internet via one of our high-speed phone lines. Distances of 8-10 from one of our tower locations can be achieved.  Mount the radio and load the drivers and you are surfing the web.  Download speeds compare favorably to many DSL services.  If the need exist, we can supply up to 3 mbps of data transfer.

Because this technology does not use the phone line, a second phone line is no longer necessary. Myakka Technologies is the Internet Service Provider (ISP) so subscribers no longer need national ISPs like AOL or ATT. Monthly pricing is comparable to AOL with a second phone line (see our pricing page).

Most of our radios have Ethernet connections so they are compatible with Mac’s and Linux systems.  These units can be connected directly to a router to run multiple computers in your house.

Below is a map of our approximate coverage area:

With the exception of the Oak Ford and Verna Bethany towers, subscribers must have a relatively clean line of sight to one of the 5 towers. If you live within the shaded areas, please call us for a free site survey to determine if your location can receive this service. If you live outside this radius, please call to help us determine what subdivisions will be covered in Phase Six. Our phone number is (941) 322-2916.
